Mrs. Ethel P. Savage has been left ten million dollars by her husband, who recently died, and wants to make the best use of it, in spite of her grown-up stepchildren's efforts to get their hands on it. Knowing that the widow's wealth is now in negotiable securities, and seeing they cannot get hold of the fortune, the stepchildren commit her to a sanatorium hoping to "bring her to her senses." In the sanatorium Mrs. Savage meets various social misfits, men and women who just cannot adjust themselves to life, people who need the help Mrs. Savage can provide. The dominant mood is high comedy, and the audience is left with a feeling that the neglected virtues of kindness and affection have not been entirely lost in a world that seems at times motivated only by greed and dishonesty.

Primarily a comedy, contrasting the kindness and loyalty of psychiatric patients with the avarice and vanity of "respectable" public figures, the playwright, John Patrick, calls into question conventional definitions of sanity while lampooning celebrity culture.

The play opened on Broadway on October 24th, 1950.

Micah Linford, better known to Albuquerque theatre-goers for his acting - this year at The Adobe in The Whiteheaded Boy; Dividing The Estate; and Caesar's Blood; at The Vortex in The Philadelphia Story - takes up the directing reins again. The eleven roles are played by

Clifton Chadwick, Ed Chavez, Nicholas Ganjei, Tristiana Gonzalez, Eve Grace Cronert, Doris Hargrave, Yannig Morin, Yolanda Luchtti-Knight, Rachel Thompson, George Williams, and Meta Williams.

The Curious Savage opens Friday, July 15th and plays 4 weekends through Sunday, August 7th, 2016. Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm, with a 'Pay What You Will' performance (proceeds are shared between the cast and crew) on Thursday, July 28th, at 7.30pm.
