Santa Fe Rep and Teatro Paraguas present Salt and Pepper, a humorous play about maturing by Los Alamos playwright Robert Benjamin, opening on November 1, 2013 for nine performances. Beth Kennedy Jones directs a stellar and seasoned cast, including Alaina Zachary, Fran Martone, Deborah Dennison, Deborah Hayden, Tone Forrest, Kerry Kehoe, Larry Glaister, Rick Vargas, and Tad Jones.

Salt and Pepper is a tightly interwoven collection of upbeat tales about maturing with grace, courage and humor. The play's journey is from a Santa Fe park to a bed-and-breakfast inn to a post office and more. Populated by whimsical, ripening characters, this play opens with a clash over the use of a public park. It's the day-home of seasoned Shakespearean actress fallen on hard times, yet an arrogant young filmmaker wants to use it this afternoon for a movie set. The final play of the collection is his film about old newlyweds at the grave of his first wife, and guess who's cast as the new bride. Between these bookends are heartwarming stories of rekindled romance, love and loss, healing, acceptance, gift giving and receiving. It's a roller-coaster of poignant stories and sparkling characters who celebrate the hopefulness and pathos of maturing today.

Salt and Pepper premiered to rave reviews at the Toolshed Theatre, Dixon NM (June 2013), followed by a popular production at the Metta Theatre, Taos NM (August 2013). The preceding script development included public readings at Nashville TN, The Dramatists Guild at New York City and a standing-room-only performance at Teatro Paraguas (February 2013).

Future bookings for Salt and Pepper include an Off-Off-Broadway production at The Spiral Theatre Studio, New York City (with the title, WRINKLES), Prescott AZ and Amissville VA.

Santa Fe productions and readings by Robert F. Benjamin include Parted Waters (stage and touring shows by Teatro Paraguas), Time Enough, Galileo's Footsteps, Yogurt Security, Stuck, Offsides, Working Out and Treason.

Salt and Pepper is made possible in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts, Santa Fe Arts Commission, and the Santa Fe Community Foundation.
