Santa Fe Opera is preparing to bring holiday cheer to towns throughout New Mexico beginning December 10. Former apprentices Sarah Coit and Jorge Espino will join pianist and music director Wojciech Milewski to perform operatic selections and carols in several cities.
Mezzo-soprano Sarah Coit was a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of St. Louis where she covered Richard in the American Premiere of Handel's RICHARD THE LIONHEART. As a 2016 Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Singer, she covered the role of Erika in VANESSA. This past summer she was again an Apprentice Singer at Santa Fe Opera where she sang the role of Alisa in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR and covered the role of Laurene Powell Jobs in the world premiere of Mason Bates' THE (R)EVOLUTION OF Steve Jobs. This fall she will sing Cherubino in THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO with Michigan Opera Theatre.
During the 2017-18 season, Mexican baritone Jorge Espino, a graduate of the Academy of Vocal Arts, is continuing his professional studies at Curtis Institute of Music. There, he will sing the title role in EUGENE ONEGIN. He made his Santa Fe Opera debut in 2016 as Sid in THE GIRL OF THE GOLDEN WEST and returned last summer to sing Prince Afron in THE GOLDEN COCKEREL.
Music director and collaborative pianist Wojciech (pronounced Voytek) Milewski is an internationally known musician who lives in Albuquerque and regularly works with Santa Fe Opera's leading artists.
