The 2018-2019 season includes six Broadway shows, headlined by the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Blockbuster Beautiful - The Carole King Musical. Also coming as part of the Haverland Carter Broadway in New Mexico series are Finding Neverland, The Sound of Music, Kinky Boots, and the newly-restaged Cats. RENT 20THANNIVERSARY TOUR will also tour to Popejoy as a Broadway Extra.

An international mix of music, theater, and dance fills out the remainder of the season, including a concert by Broadway star Lea Salonga, a new stage adaptation of Mary Shelley'sFrankenstein, a 50th anniversary performance by Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the international sensation Che Malambo. These shows and 15 more make up the Ovation Series. Both the Broadway in New Mexico Series and the Ovation Series are brought to the stage under the Popejoy Presents umbrella.

"We're excited to bring this inspired collection of Broadway shows and world-class artists to Popejoy Hall next season," said Tom Tkach, director. "The five shows in our Broadway series are all either new to Popejoy audiences, or masterpieces wonderfully reworked. The Ovation shows represent a mix of exciting, new artists or audience favorites, many with new shows. And our subscribers know that they always get the first chance at tickets for all the great shows we offer each and every year.

New subscriptions are available now! Subscriptions for the Broadway in New Mexico Series start at $210 while an Ovation Series subscription is available starting at $60 for four shows.

Subscriptions can be purchased online, over the phone at 505-277-9771. To subscribe, patrons choose either the five-show Broadway series or any four shows from the Ovation Series. Subscribers can add as many other shows as they like.

Finding Neverland

The Sound of Music

The hills are alive! A brand new production of The Sound of Music is coming to Popejoy Hall. The spirited, romantic and beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family will once again thrill audiences with its Tony®, Grammy® and Academy Award®-winning Best Score, including "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "Edelweiss" and the title song. The Sound of Music features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, suggested by "The Trapp Family Singers" by Maria Augusta Trapp. The Sound of Music enjoyed extraordinary success as the first live television production of a musical in over 50 years when "The Sound of Music Live!" aired on NBC in December, 2013 and was seen by over 44 million people. 2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the film version, which continues to be the most successful movie musical in history.

Kinky Boots

Kinky Boots is Broadway's huge-hearted, high-heeled hit! With songs by Grammy® and Tony® award-winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, this joyous musical celebration is about the friendships we discover, and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind. The Doo Wop Project

The Capitol Steps

They began as a group of Congressional staffers planning entertainment for a Christmas party. When they couldn't find three wise men and a virgin in all of Washington, they settled on satire. As long as our politicians keep providing material (is that even an issue?), they'll keep going. They turn headlines into laugh lines on a daily basis and put the "mock" in democracy.


Sleeping Beauty

Murphy's Celtic Legacy

The show's original tale draws from Irish folklore - Kings and Queens, rebels and magic, and epic battles between good and evil. Created by Chris Hannon, former principal dancer for Lord of the Dance, Murphy's Celtic Legacy features original choreography combining traditional Irish and modern dance fused with multimedia elements, all accompanied by a seven-piece band.


Frankenstein

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein has haunted our collective imagination for 200 years. First published in 1818, her novel is considered the first true science fiction novel, a classic that explores science's potential in opposition to its consequences. Victor Frankenstein creates life and, dealing with the repercussions of his actions, he must destroy his own creation. Aquila Theatre's production of this timeless piece creates a bold and thrilling homage to Shelley's original novel.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Piano Battle

Lea Salonga

A star of Broadway and London's West End, Lea Salonga originated the role of Kim in Miss Saigon, and played both Eponine and Fantine in Les Misérables. She brought us joy singing both as Jasmine and Fa Mulan, in Disney's hit films Aladdin and Mulan. A Tony and Olivier-Award winner, Salonga sings with a powerful voice and perfect pitch. She'll perform her Broadway hits, Disney favorites, and an exciting array of pop and musical theatre standards in one special concert event

Dance Theatre of Harlem

Che Malambo

Powerhouse, all-male Argentinian dance company Che Malambo storms into Popejoy Hall with its thrilling percussive dance and music spectacle celebrating the art of the Gauchos (South American cowboys). Their combination of precision footwork, rhythmic stomping, drumming, and song embodies gaucho tradition and features zapeteo (fast-paced footwork) Argentine bombos, and whirling boleadoras (throwing weapons made of cords and stones) electrifying audiences worldwide with their strength and passion.

David Sedaris

Witty, clever, and sardonic, David Sedaris returns to Popejoy to read from his latest works. He is a master of satire and one of today's most observant writers addressing the human condition. Beloved for his short stories and personal essays, over ten million copies of his books have been printed in 25 languages and his stories have appeared in The New Yorker and The Best American Essays. His latest book (May 2018) is Calypso. May contain mature content.
