Teatro Paraguas will host a poetry reading with 20 New Mexico poets whose work has been featured in Malpais Review, an eminent poetry anthology published quarterly by Gary Brower since 2011 which gained national recognition for excellent poetry, well-researched articles on poets and genres of poetry, and thoughtful and inspiring interviews.
Gary Brower, an accomplished poet in his own right, is also a professor, journalist, editor, community organizer, activist, translator of Spanish poetry, and long-time director of the well-regarded Duende Poetry Series in Placitas, New Mexico, where he resides.
The last issue of Malpais Review will be published this spring. For personal reasons, Brower is closing Malpais Review, which has been such an important resource for the poetry community here in New Mexico and across the country.
The 20 poets will each read two original poems which were published in Malpais Review. The poets include H. M. Aragon, Debbi Brody, Gary Brower, Janet Eigner, Dale Harris, Donald Levering, Jane Lipman, Joan Logghe, John Macker, Argos MacCallum, Mary McGinnis, James McGrath, Karen Moldaw, Karen Petersen, Jane Schoenfield, Debby Stehr, Judith Toler, and Linda Whittenberg.
Teatro Paraguas hosts 20-30 poetry readings and open-mic readings a year, and is partially funded by the Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry, as well as New Mexico Arts, a division of the Dept. of Cultural Affairs, and the Santa Fe Arts Commission.
