Imagine Action Conservatory to Launch in July

Three of the top theatre and educational organizations in Albuquerque-Duke City Repertory Theatre, Sol Acting Academy and Menaul School-are teaming up to save summer with the inaugural Imagine Action Conservatory. IAC is a two-week summer program from July 13-24, 2015 that teaches life skills through stage skills to students 3rd-12th grade. The summer camp runs all day Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm.

Students will have an opportunity to learn from professional actors and theatre practitioners with 40+ years of experience in theatre and film. The program focuses on cultivating confidence, bravery, teamwork, and creativity---all through the powerful medium of theatre. Regardless of where life takes them, students of all backgrounds will benefit from Imagine Action Conservatory's two weeks of adventure.

"The 'Life Skills Through Stage Skills' umbrella means that every student walks away with skills that will help them in every walk of life," says Katie Becker Colón, Duke City Rep's Director of Education.

Each day, students will participate in six different classes with six unique teachers. Students are learning about voice, movement, improvisation, as well as specific techniques for theatre scenes and musical numbers. "Local kids will have the opportunity to work with some of the best professional artists in town," says Colón. "Our teaching artists are skilled at what they do, offering students the best training in the Southwest. They are also people who care about students and are committed to sharing the joy and craft of theatre."

Every class is at the centrally located Menaul School (301 Menaul Blvd. NE), and lunch, made in house every day, will be provided. The two-week experience culminates in a high-energy presentation of class work for family and friends.

"One of the best aspects of this program is that students not only get to learn about improvisation, voice and movement, and musical theatre, but they also get to learn how to stand up in front of a room of people and speak," says Duke City Rep Artistic Director Amelia Ampuero. "The fact that we have the opportunity to help kids feel good about themselves through the art of theatre-that we have the chance to show a younger generation that they can be anything their imaginations come up with-that to me is the most powerful work that I can think of...and it sounds like a great way to spend my summer!"
