Elizabeth Raby will be reading from A Matter of Time, her fifth full-length poetry collection, published by Virtual Artists Collective or its off-shoot, Purple Flag, on Saturday, November 5th, at 6:00 P.M., at Teatro Paraguas, 3205 Calle Marie, Santa Fe, NM. Free admission, donations gratefully accepted.
Once again, gently and joyfully, she reminds us that "just before we die" is the space in which human's dwell. "But look what we have right here: babies, birds, Bach, oceans, air-/you'd think we'd take better care." She ends as she begins, gently jostling "the debris of the human heart," scrubbing the soft pump "with kindly fingers," reaching outward, inviting us to sing along, just before we die.
Raby will be joined by poet Mary McGinnis and poet/visual artist Steven Schroeder. Mary will read from See with Your Whole Body, her recent collection of tight, wild, unexpected, grateful, angry, heart-wrenching and beautiful poems. Steve's painting will be on exhibit for this one night only, and he will read from his most recent collection, the moon not the finger, pointing, published by Lamar University Press.
Elizabeth, Mary, and Steve are all part of Virtual Artists Collective, a "virtual" gathering of musicians, poets and visual artists that has been publishing poetry and nurturing collaboration among artists since 2004. For more on the collective, the poets, and the books, visit vacpoetry.org.
