"Beware the Ides of March." In one of Shakespeare's most famous political tragedies, Caesar's triumphant return to Rome prompts celebration in the streets and conspiracies in the shadows. As the city falls under a plague of supernatural tidings, unlikely alliances set up a chain of events that bring down the great Caesar and thrust the empire into a disastrous civil war. In the midst of the 2016 presidential campaigns and the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, DCRT's production promises to spark examinations of power, governance, ambition, and patriotism.
Duke City Repertory Theatre is also hosting a Children's Book and Art Supply Drive for CLN (Cuidando Los Niños) during the run of Julius Caesar. Duke City Repertory Theatre, a professional non-profit theatre company in the middle of our 6th season, exists to serve the audience. We believe that theatre is a mutual experience between audience and actors. It is not merely witnessing or performing, but something shared and profound. DCRT is accountable to our patrons in providing top-notch, bold theatre that inspires and transforms. It is our aim to make this art accessible and compelling to not only the theatre community, but the entire community at large. Our theatre resides not in bricks and mortar, but in that which can be shared between human beings immersed in a created world.
