David Sedaris Returns to Popejoy Hall  Image

Master of satire, David Sedaris, returns to Popejoy Hall on Sunday, May 5 at 4pm to read from his wide range of work. Since his debut in 1992, David Sedarishas captivated audiences with his eccentric stories and provocative humor. As an avid contributor to The New Yorkerand This American Life, Sedaris delights audiences with his quick wit and ultimate self-deprecation.

David Sedaris first emerged onto the literature scene when radio host, Ira Glass discovered him reading from a diary at a Chicago club. After being invited to read on the The Wild Room, Sedaris made his debut on NPR's The Morning Show in 1992. The New York Times proclaimed him a "minor phenomenon" after reaching success with his monthly radio readings. Eventually he earned a book deal with Little, Brown and Company and went on to publish a variety of works, including his most recent essay, Calypso. He has also been known to write plays with his sister, Amy Sedaris, under the alias name "The Talent Family." Now, as a regular contributor to The New Yorker and This American Life, David Sedaris has found success in translating his personal experiences into captivating stories.

David Sedaris' accolades include Grammy nominations for Best Spoken Word Album and Best Comedy Album, an honorary doctorate from Binghamton University, and a film adaption of his essay, Naked. Since releasing his collection of diaries, Theft By Finding: Diaries (1977-2002), in 2017, David Sedaris has continued to share his personal stories. In the summer of 2019, Sedaris is expected to release a second volume of diaries as well. Due to the nature of some David Sedaris' stories, this show may contain mature content.
