It doesn't happen often, but in 1981 a group of talented actors put on a little show about waitresses and garage guys. Then, in 1982 it moved to Broadway where it ran for more than 570 performances. PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES has been performed frequently around the USA ever since, and this August, director Daryl Streeter will bring the delightful musical to the ADOBE Theater for a dozen performances.

Daryl is an experienced director (most recently THE RAINMAKER at The Adobe), actor (DAMN YANKEES) and photographer. He has assembled a dynamic cast of ADOBE regulars and newcomers with actor/musician Paul Hunton (A LIFE IN THE THEATER), Mike Lash, Ken West and Emilio Naktewa as the Pump Boys, and Avery Scott and Tasha Waters (both seen in LEND ME A TENOR) as the Cupp sisters running the diner. This "musical tribute to life by the roadside" is perfect Summer fun for the whole family. The accomplished and talented Loretta Robinson returns as musical director/keyboard artist.

The original cast wrote and composed the material as a group. One of them, Debra Monk, has gone on to quite a career: TV fans know her from GREY's ANATOMY and from LAW AND ORDER, but she has also appeared in many films and a dozen Broadway shows including CHICAGO and the recent revival of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES was nominated for a Tony Award as Best Musical, and received four nominations from the Drama Desk Awards in 1982, played for months in London, and in 2011 was again revived in New York. We are fortunate to have a fine production at minimal prices. (You would pay as much just to park in NYC!)

Let Daryl Streeter and company take you to Highway 57 in N. Carolina for a load of fun, but be aware that ADOBE musicals sell out quickly!

PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES by John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann opens tonight, August 9 and runs through September 1 at the ADOBE Theater with performances Friday and Saturday at 8 and Sunday at 2. Tickets are general $15, students and seniors $13. For reservations, call 505-898-9222 week days or visit www.adobetheater.org.
