Footloose, based on the well-loved 1984 movie of the same name starring Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer, is coming to Albuquerque Little Theatre October 5th- 28th. The musical has been adapted for the stage by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, and includes music by Tom Snow, Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Logins, and Jim Steinman. Albuquerque Little Theatre's production is directed by Laura Nuzum, with musical direction by Jonathan Gallegos, and choreography by Jonathan Ragsdale and Maura Talley. Its cast includes performances by PaulAshby, Santiago Baca, Verónica Baca, Veronica Barrett, Kale Brown, Amy Carter, Alivia Fitzsimons, and Jillian Foster.

The musical centers around a mother, Ethel McCormack, and her son, Ren McCormack, who move from Chicago to a farming town and their subsequent adaptation to a small-town life that is far stricter than Ren ever expected. A local preacher, Reverend Shaw Moore, has several rigorous local edicts in place to control the local teenagers, including a ban on dancing. Ren also has to contend with having his reputation sabotaged by one of the town locals while the rest of the town is eager to believe the worst about him. At its heart, Footloose is the story of a father mourning a son he lost and a teenager searching for the father who walked out on him years ago. Set to a score full of Top 40 hits and new songs that were created for the musical, Footloose celebrates the importance of listening to others and always trying to have an open mind.
