The next offering by Nob Hill's Aux Dog Theatre will be the southwestern premiere of Annie Baker's award winning play, The Flick. This new production, opening this weekend, is a slice of life sort of show about the employees at an old movie theater called The Flick.
In addition to realistically portraying the minutia of working a entry level gig and the relationships coworkers in such situations, the play also touches on deeper themes, such as the ever evolving nature of technology and its impact on the workplace (the theater in the play is one of the few without digital projections) and race relations.
The understated, naturalistic play (which is in turn both comedic and tragic), features Katherine Jackson, Safwon Farmer, Dachary Vann, and Brandon McDaniel, and is directed by Justin Golding. In this interpretation, the audience will be seated on the stage and the play takes place in the house, which becomes the aforementioned movie theater.
Accolades for The Flick include winning the 2014 Pulitzer Prize or Drama, the 2013 Obie Award for Playwriting, and the 2013 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. It was nominated for Outstanding Play at both the 2013 Drama Desk Award and Lucille Lortel Awards, and was a 2013 Best Play finalist for the New York Critics Circle Awards.
There will be a special opening weekend discount - all tickets will only be $10 (just like what you'd pay to see a movie).
Performances are Fridays & Saturdays at 8 PM; Sundays at 2 PM. The Flick runs through April 14.
Tickets may be purchased online at www.auxdogtheatre.org, by phone at 505-596-0607, or at the door.
The Flick is recommended for audiences aged 16 and older.
