Candida - by George Bernard Shaw, directed by Brian Hansen. The high-minded and articulate Rev. James Morrell (40-ish) is the toast of London, speaking every night on Fabian Socialism and self-improvement. He is married to the ravishing Candida who makes the perfect helpmeet. Into their lives pops Eugene Marchbanks, a suitably miserable young Romantic poet who has been sleeping in a nearby park. When he announces that he is in love with Candida, he demands that she choose between him and Morrell. Will Candida stay or go? Chicago - book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, directed by Henry Avery. Premiering in 1975 and the hit of the 1997 Broadway season in a production that originated at City Center's Encore! series, "Chicago" won six Tony Awards including Best Revival and later the Academy Award as Best Picture of the Year. In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap...until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess" Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the American dream: fame, fortune and acquittal. This sharp edged satire features a dazzling score that sparked immortal staging by Bob Fosse. The Firebugs - by Max Frisch, directed by Paul Ford. Subtitled A Learning-Play Without a Lesson, "The Firebugs'" lesson is that if two men come in your house and say they are arsonists, pack your attic with explosives and ask you for a match - perhaps they are what they say they are and will happily burn you up - despite how hospitable you are. L'Italiana in Algeri (The Italian Girl in Algiers) - an opera by Giaocchini Rossini. The music of "The Italian Girl in Algiers" adds an exotic Eastern flair to Rossini's elegant melodies and exciting rhythmic style. At the center of this boisterous comedy is the beautiful and fiery Isabella, on a quest to find her captured lover Lindoro. She becomes shipwrecked in Algiers - just in time to be found by Mustafa, the Bey, who has tired of his wife and is looking for an Italian woman to replace her. When Isabella finds Lindoro enslaved by Mustafa, she uses all her feminine charms to outwit the Bey's advances, reunite him with his wife, and escape from Algiers with Lindoro. Filled with vocal fireworks and brilliant ensemble singing, this battle of the sexes will make you laugh out loud while you enjoy the gorgeous and lively music of one of Italy's most celebrated opera composers. The Crossing; The Bicycle Thief - written & Performed by Jonathan Nkala. A playwright, actor, poet, musician and comedian, Nkala's work is informed by his harrowing escape from ravaged Zimbabwe in 2002, when as a 21-year-old, Nkala and his friend made their way to the border with a plan to get across the Limpopo River by any means necessary to escape the political and economic chaos of their country. In the end they walked over 200 km and went through numerous challenges to get into South Africa. For the first time ever, the survivor of this ordeal is in the U.S. to tell his story. You will hear all your favorite numbers and experience firsthand the sound, the magic and the music that made Patsy Cline the first lady of Country Music. Come and relive the unforgettable passion and glamour of one of the greatest singers in music history. Laurie Finnegan reprises one of her signature roles. Featured are more than 20 hits including "Crazy,' "Walkin' After Midnight," "Sweet Dreams" "She's Got You" and "I Fall to Pieces." The Dress Shop Murders of 1933 (A Musical Murder-Mystery Dinner Theatre) - written and directed by Richard Atkins. Following on the success of locally-based, acclaimed playwright, composer, and musician Richard Atkins' previous hit shows for East Mountain Center for Theatre: Murder at the Swiss Chalet, Murder on the Turquoise Trail, and Murder on the Salty Dog, this all-new show will take us to the waning era of prohibition, speakeasies, and gangsters and molls. A Thousand Clowns - directed by Theodore Hamblin and JoRae Taylor. This benchmark of Broadway comedy produced one of the theatre's most beloved roles: unconventional Murray, uncle to precocious nephew, Nick. Tired of writing cheap comedy gags for "Chipper the Chipmunk" a children's television star, Murray finds himself unemployed with plenty of free time with which to pursue his...pursuits. Lectured by his conventional brother Arnold and hounded by "the system," Murray is paid a visit by bickering, uptight social workers, Sandra and Albert, and finds himself solving their problems as well as most of his own.
