LEGALLY BLONDE, the first musical of Albuquerque Little Theatre's 86th Season might sound less amazing than it really is. The musical is based on the popular 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon (which is based on the novel by Amanda Brown). Like the film, the musical is fun and quirky, only with highly catchy songs and raging choreography.

Virginia Asbury plays Elle Woods, the Malibu sorority sister who, after being dumped by her aspiring politician boyfriend, Warner (Stafford Douglas), for not being "serious" enough, uses her underestimated intelligence to get into Harvard Law School to impress him. Far from her comfort zone, Elle is suddenly a misfit, who, with the help of new friends Emmett (Bryan Durden), a teaching assistant with a working class background, and Paulette (Courtney Awe), a down-on-her-luck hairdresser, finds her true calling in life (hint: It's not Warner). Also guiding her is a "Greek chorus" made up of her UCLA sorority sisters, who only she (and later Paulette) can see. Her biggest foils are Harvard elite mean girl Vivienne (Angelique Felice), who also happens to be Warner's Jackie O-like girlfriend, and the agenda-driven Professor Callahan (Chris Armijo).

The creative team is made up of Bill Potenziani (Director), Peter Bennett (Choreographer), Shelly Andes (Music Director), Nick Tapia (Stage Manager), Sharon Garassino & Meg Novick (Costume Designers), Ryan Jason Cook (Lighting and Sound Designer), Vic Browder (Set Designer) and Debra Miller (Props Designer).

LEGALLY BLONDE opens October 9 and runs through November 1. Performances will be at Albuquerque Little Theatre, 224 San Pasquale SW. Curtain times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. There is a special Thursday performance at 7:30pm on October 22. There will be no evening performance on Saturday Oct. 31. It has been replaced with a 2:00 matinee. Tickets are $24 for general public, $22 for seniors, $20 for students and $14 for children. We look forward to seeing you at the show!
