A Midsummer Night's Dream brings elements of fantasy and comedy to Popejoy on Sunday, March 3 at 3:00 pm. Known as one of William Shakespeare's most spellbinding plays, Aquila Theatre breathes new life into this tragic comedy.
Originally founded in London by Peter Meineck in 1991, the New York City-based Aquila Theatre reimagines classical dramas for communities nationwide. Aquila Theatre is a nonprofit company whose main mission is to bring classical works at an affordable price. Their community-based programs include Veteran and Civilian Public Programming, Warrior Chorus, YouStories, and in the summer of 2019, they are expected to open The Aquila Academy For Classical Drama.
A Midsummer Night's Dream unpacks the complicated stories of lovers, fairies, and performers alike. Famously noted as a "play within a play," A Midsummer Night's Dream guides audiences through the enchanted forest alongside the memorable Puck, Oberon, Hermia, and Nick Bottom. Exploring themes of love, anger, passion, and enchantment, A Midsummer Night's Dream encourages audiences to embrace a new kind of fantasy.
