THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA by William Shakespeare
Little Theatre, University of Adelaide
7, 10-14 &17-21 May 2016, 7.30pm
“O time most accurst! ‘Mongst all foes that a friend should be the worst!” Valentine and Proteus, two young gentlemen from small town Verona, take their gap year in the big city of Milan. Friendships and relationships are tested when they both fall in love with the same girl. Temptation, betrayal, desire, deceit ... how far would you go to get what you want? Thought by many to be Shakespeare’s first play, The Two Gentlemen of Verona is a witty, fresh and funny take on the age old battle between loyalty and love. Yet beneath the playful banter - the passion of first love, mad escape plots, farting dogs and lovers in disguise - a disturbing undercurrent is drawing the gentlemen and their loves towards The Forest, and a dark and violent confrontation. Two boys. Two girls. One big city. What could possibly go wrong? The cast comprises Alex Antoniou, Ronan Banks, Matthew Chapman, Nicholas Clippingdale, Sheridan Cox, Lindsay Dunn, Guy Henderson, Matt Houston, Madison Kirby, Amelia Lee-Hammat, Annie Matsouliadis, Bonnie McAllister, Amanda Moore, Alice Munton, Olivia Parker, Jack Robins, Timothy Tedmanson, Kate van der Horst and Diesel the dog.
