What a difficult year this has been! However, The Corinthian Singers, with Musical Director Alistair Knight, will bring back some sense of normality to the Christmas season when they present this years annual two Christmas concerts - CELEBRATE. CELEBRATE will include a selection of celebratory traditional Christmas works such as the 14th century A virgin most pure and the 15th century Chester Carol.Contemporary compositions include the lullaby This endris night by American composer Z.Randall Stroope and English works: Bob Chilcotts In dulci jubilo, Peter Warlocks Bethlehem Down and, composed in 2011, Out of the orient crystal skies by Kerry Andrew. At the centre of the CELEBRATE program The Corinthian Singers will present Francis Poulencs Quatre motets pour le temps de Nol, his four motets for Christmas. The shifting tonality in the work evokes the magic and mystery of the nativity witnessed by shepherds, wise men and angels.Other works included in the program are Es ist ein Reis entsprungen by the master of 12 tone composition, Alban Berg. This beautiful and lyric piece tells the allegory of Mary as a rose blooming in winter, whilst German romantic composer Max Bruchs In der Christnacht describes Christ as the child who brings light to the darkness. CELEBRATE the Christmas season in 2020 with The Corinthian Singers in two concerts of gentle and joyous music.
