The smash hit I'M YOUR MAN lands in Adelaide, today, Aug 7-11.

You enter a boxing gym: a place of dreams, glory and a better life. The walls are covered in inspirational quotes, bodies are in constant motion and minds are elsewhere. The stakes are high. Everyone wants to be special; we all have something to prove.

The more you sweat, the less you bleed.

Vitalstatistix, Port Adelaide's hub for Contemporary Theatre and interdisciplinary arts projects, is very excited to welcome Roslyn Oades and her smash hit I'M YOUR MAN back to our venue Waterside in August.

I'm Your Man is touring the country through Mobile States, a national initiative that showcases independent theatre and dance works that investigate, research and experiment with ideas and form. Vitals has partnered with Performing Lines to bring Mobile States back to South Australia.

Creator and director of the show, Roslyn Oades, has previously worked with Vitals on a number of projects, most recently Cutaway - a portrait (December 2012) a theatre and audio exploration of the Waterside Workers Hall, described by ArtsHub as "without doubt one of the best theatre works made in Adelaide in 2012".

Acclaimed for her documentary theatre-making, Roslyn has a long-standing fascination with speech patterns, individual vocabularies and group conversations. The verbatim performance technique used in I'm Your Man is a process Roslyn has been exploring since 2001. Roslyn is particularly interested in placing rarely heard or misrepresented Australian voices into positions of authority. Her work aims to magnify candid, personal stories as a means of exploring broader social and political tensions. Following on from Fast Cars & Tractor Engines (Urban Theatre Projects, 2005) and Stories of Love & Hate (Urban Theatre Projects, 2008), I'm Your Man is the final part in a trilogy of headphone-verbatim plays that explore the theme 'acts of courage'.

For 18 months Roslyn and her trusty tape recorder followed a determined young boxer from Bankstown, NSW, through his preparations for a world-title fight. I'm Your Man is the story of who she met along the way: past legends, up-and-comers and failed contenders whose lives have been irreversibly changed by the fight game.
