The Popular Concerts@Kent Town Return With 2018 Opening Concert Image

Once again the friendly community Concerts@Kent Town series welcomes music lovers to the historic Wesley Church Kent Town, Cnr Fullarton Rd and Grenfell Street, Kent Town and continues its tradition of presenting a series of outstanding concerts.

The first concert of the season takes place 2pm Wednesday 18 July. There will be five monthly concerts this year from July to November. Tickets are only $15 which includes a generous afternoon tea. We hope to see you at all of them.

On the bill for this first concert is Honours student from the Elder Conservatorium, classical saxophonist Jaime Grech accompanied by Damien Mansfield, and organist Andrew Ampt.

Jaime Grech, 21, is an emerging classical saxophonist from Adelaide. She has performed extensively throughout South Australia with various ensembles including the Band of the South Australia Police, Elder Conservatorium Wind Orchestra, Adelaide Wind Orchestra, Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and multiple chamber music ensembles.

Additionally, she has featured as a soloist with Recitals Australia Lunch Hour Series, recorded singles with local upcoming bands and collaborated with a variety of artists as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival in recent years.

In 2017 Jaime enlisted with the Australian Army after a successful audition with the Australian Army Band Adelaide. This has given her the opportunity to further expand her repertoire and perform big band, concert band and traditional ceremonial music at a range of respected events around the state.

Jaime will perform music by Pierre Max Dubois, Eugene Bozza and Victor Morosco
Accompanist Damien Mansfield has participated in recitals in Australia, USA, England, Netherlands and Canada. Since resuming active musical work in 2013, after 40 years of medical practice, he has been consistently active working with vocal and instrumental student at the Elder Conservatorium.

The return of one of Concerts @Kent town favourite performers, Andrew Ampt, will present the organ music component of this first concert.

Andrew has had a lifelong interest in the organ. He had formal lessons with Eric Thiele and James Govenlock and began service playing at St John's Lutheran church, Unley . He has played for numerous Lutheran churches over the years, more recently at St. Stephen's in the city and Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he is the current Head Organist.

His particular interest is the art of hymn playing, including the use of free harmonisation for last verses.

Andrew will perform works by J S Bach, A Vivaldi, M A Charpentier, J P Kellner and C. M. Widor:
