How much has society really changed since the 19th Century?
Spring has sprung in Stirling already this year as the Hills Musical Company production team and cast have begun rehearsals for their 2nd show of the year; Spring Awakening.
Winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and with music by Duncan Sheik and books and lyrics by Steven Slater, Spring Awakening is a rock musical adaptation of Frank Wedekind's 1981 expressionist play about the trials and tribulations of growing up and the consequences of ignorance and repression.
The Hills Musical Company's production team, Director Hayley Horton, Musical Director Mark DeLaine, and Choreographer Thomas Phillips, will be offering Adelaide audiences an original staging of this critically acclaimed show.
Director, Hayley Norton, said that "it is a joy to be bringing this unique and moving musical to Stirling. The dynamic combination of youth, angst and rock and roll gives us a rich tapestry to explore and we hope audiences will leave hopeful for the next generation"
"Spring Awakening explores all the trials and tribulations of youth. Despite its 1800s origins, the themes of conformity, abuse of power, and sexual repression are still relevant today"
"We have gathered some of the most charismatic and talented young performers in Adelaide to deliver this compelling story that is perfectly suited to the intimate Stirling Community Theatre Setting"
Spring Awakening's electrifying fusion of rebellion, sexual awakening, and rock and roll, will be brought to you by some of Adelaide's hottest young stars.
