In their concert Passion, at 3 pm Palm Sunday 20 March, St John's Church, Adelaide, the Corinthian Singers, under direction of musical director, Alistair Knight, present a varied Easter program ranging from JS Bach's Ruht wohl (sleep well), from the St John Passion, to two movements from Dvo?ák's Stabat Mater.

The program also includes work by Bruckner, Ives and Walton and two arrangements ofLike as the hart by Noel Rawsthorne and by Herbert Howells. The sacred works are contrasted by movements of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.

"Palm Sunday is the first of the eight days at the heart of the Christian faith. The music of this week offers a unique journey of the soul, covering the full range of human emotive expression from the triumphant, but short-lived, pomp of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, to the long anguish of his trial and death five days later. Then, the jubilation of his return in glory on Easter morning.

"The Corinthian Singers offer a program of music which covers this extraordinary emotional journey, with both sacred and secular works" Alistair Knight, Music Director, Corinthian Singers.

The choir will be accompanied by Adelaide organist Peter Kelsall.

The Corinthian Singers of Adelaide was formed in Adelaide over 50 years ago with the purpose of promoting and performing music to a high standard from a large repertoire to many different audiences, and has established a fine reputation for its performances within a repertoire that spans more than 500 years of choral tradition.
