Queens Theatre, Playhouse Lane, Adelaide, 7pm-midnight 20th August 2015
Eight visual artists fight it out to win the crowd's approval in a drop-out, round Robin flurry of paint, brushes, and music!
The Art Battle Spectacular is a pop-up event hosted by Kat Coppock (Art Over Apathy) and supported by Splash Adelaide, in conjunction with Art After Dark, and SALA Festival, where eight local visual artists will create artworks live in front of a crowd.
It will be a competitive event challenging artists James Dean, Chiara Beclu, Francz Varga, Brookyn Mabbot, Christina Geogiou, Steve Glass, Andrew Bischoff, and Wendy Dixon-Whiley to execute their creative ideas as best as possible in 45 minute timed rounds. The most successful artists will win the love of the audience to proceed through the four-round competition, with a winner to eventually be crowned best in show. All artwork created for the event will be up for sale, with a live auction for the winning piece. There is no commission so all proceeds go directly to the artists.
We aim to reveal the artistic talent in our state to a greater audience by using this event as a platform to expose emerging and established artists and musicians in Adelaide to the wider community, inspiring and encouraging a love for the visual arts by demystifying the creative process. This is the only event of its kind currently operating in Adelaide and, after the success of the first event in December 2014, we are hoping to make the second Art Battle bigger and better than before.
This free event will be held in conjunction with the West End's Art After Dark series, with local independent food trucks, a locally sourced bar sponsored by Hills Cider Co, live DJs ChunkySwisse and friends, and a live chalk free-for-wall to encourage people to make this landmark event a part of their winter evening.
