Splash Theatre Company presents a storytelling performance to celebrate Henry Lawson's birthday (June 17, 1867) - THE LOADED DOG. The Loaded Dog is an explosive tale about three gold miners and their dog Tommy. When Tommy steals a stick of explosives and it ignites as he runs past the campfire, mayhem and chaos follow.
"Tommy was a big black young retriever dog - he seemed to take life, the world, his two-legged mates and his own instinct as a huge joke.
One of Henry Lawson's best known and most popular comic stories The Loaded Dog has plenty of action and humour to engage and entertain young audiences. It is a uniquely Australian story which features characters and situations form Australia's past that will inspire an interest in our cultural heritage and language.
Henry Lawson is Australia's most popular short story writer. In fact most critics would agree that he is Australia's best short story writer and the one in whose writing there is the richest, most varied and complete picture of Australian life in the "roaring days".
Previously performed in Victorian libraries, these will be the first SA performances of The Loaded Dog. Presented by Chris John who is also known for "Mr Badger tells the story of The Wind in the Willows" in over 200 venues across Australia.
