Soul Factor Gospel Choir is thrilled to present a return season of our hilarious musical "For Unto Y'all" this Christmas, Dec. 18-21. Their principal cast includes our very own Olivia McCulloch, Michael Denholm, Bec Raymond, Adrian Skewes and Lauren Potter, together with special guests and well-known Adelaide theatre talent Andrew Crispe, Sam Davy, Angus Smith, and Adam Yeager, all backed by the wonderful sound of Soul Factor Gospel Choir with choreography by the talented Brady Lloyd.
Let your mind wander back to another time and another place as we re-tell the most amazing story of all. From the days of the Old West comes this very funny modernized version of the Christmas story, set in the little town of Bethlehem in the Wyoming Territory 1880.
In this unconventional telling of the ageless story of Jesus' birth, old Doc Trotter (Adrian Skews) introduces the angel Gabriel (Andrew Crispe), a six-gun totin' masked man dressed in white, as Gabriel tells Mary (Olivia McCulloch) and Joseph (Michael Denholm) the good news.
We follow the exploits of the "Three Wise Men" Frobisham (Angus Smith), Prescott (Adam Yeager), Professor Von Metzenbaum (Sam Davy) and their housekeeper Irish Kate (Rebecca Raymond) as they travel through the hostile territory to arrive at Bethlehem to meet the new baby King... having been robbed and left in their long-johns!
They also come across Governor Tyree - cousin of the leader of the worst outlaw gang in the land... it runs in the family, except he steals from behind a desk.
Arriving in Bethlehem Mary and Joseph wind up in a rambunctious saloon run by Gracie the Saloon Ma'am (
Lauren Potter) and her boisterous band of saloon girls. After the baby threatens to enter the world on the floor of Gracie's bar, she heads them towards the livery stable. The shepherds become a rowdy bunch of lonesome cowboys working their herd on the range and the angels become a heavenly posse, and they travel to end up in the livery stable.
For Unto Y'all uses a great deal of humour, but the message of Christmas comes through loud and clear.
