In 1786 Mozart was renowned for his symphonies and piano concerti. By 1790 he had written The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi Fan Tutte, operas that challenged social conventions and morals, as the political landscape of Europe was being riven with revolution.
How did it happen? The answer is simple. Lorenzo da Ponte. The Venetian born poet, libertine and adventurer walked into Mozart's life and changed the history of opera for ever. Three internationally acclaimed opera singers, one superb pianist and an opera critic have joined forces to tell the story in a sparkling entertainment, packed with Mozart's best loved arias and duets. Soprano Giselle Blanchard, Mezzo Soprano Catriona Barr and baritone Mario Bellanova, are accompanied by the gifted pianist Jamie Cock. Opera critic and broadcaster Ewart Shaw has imagined the conversations that lead to the great operas and plays written by Lorenzo da Ponte.Videos
