One of South Australia's most talented and loved musicians Niki Vasilakis will again engage audiences in the next installment of the Cocktail Concerts series on November 20 in Lyrics.
This is a series of intimate classical performances that have been curated by Niki, a world-class concert violinist and former Young South Australian of the Year.
This concert is entitled 'Master At Work', featuring Ludwig Van Beethoven's masterpiece septet. Beethoven (1770-1827) grew to dislike his septet in E-flat for winds and strings, a work he composed in 1800 that became a tremendous favorite. His adverse reaction to the septet was his way of drawing attention to some of his other work that wasn't as popular.
The aim of the Cocktail Concerts format is to break down the barriers of formal classical concerts, with artists talking candidly with the audience, who can sip cocktails and soak up the River Torrens views from Lyrics.
Niki says: "Chamber music, classical music for small ensembles, has a rich tradition and has become so popular that audiences fill large concert halls to watch. This amazing art form originated from small gatherings of friends and families playing music together after dinner.
"The AFC Cocktail Concerts re-create the experience of friends sharing this extraordinary music in an intimate, relaxed manner away from the usual concert hall."
Last month, the Cocktail Concert 'Sibling Rivalry' unfortunately had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. However, we're very pleased to announce this concert has been re-scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 6.30pm in Lyrics. It will feature Niki on violin and respected local musician Anna Goldsworthy on piano.
This is an intimate classical music experience with Australia's leading concert artists. Casual, friendly, talkative, responsive chamber music at its finest presented in a way that excites people who are new to the genre.
