One of South Australia's most talented and loved musicians Niki Vasilakis will again engage audiences in the second performance of the Cocktail Concerts series on October 23.
This is a new series of intimate classical performances that have been curated by Niki, a world-class concert violinist and former Young South Australian of the Year. Other performers include high-profile South Australian pianist Anna Goldsworthy.
The aim of the format is to break down the barriers of formal classical concerts, with artists talking candidly with audience members who can sip cocktails and soak up the sunset River Torrens views from the Banquet Room.
Niki says: "Chamber music, classical music for small ensembles, has a rich tradition and has become so popular that audiences fill large concert halls to watch. This amazing art form originated from small gatherings of friends and families playing music together after dinner.
"The AFC Cocktail Concerts re-create the experience of friends sharing this extraordinary music in an intimate, relaxed manner away from the usual concert hall."
This is an intimate classical music experience with Australia's leading concert artists. Casual, friendly, talkative, responsive chamber music at its finest presented in a way that excites people who are new to the genre.
It's cocktails, classical music and conversation all wrapped up in one great sunset experience.
Exquisite music will come to life in a fresh and inviting way as musicians share personal stories and historical connections about the program. The Cocktail Concerts series includes works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Schubert. The October 23 concert, "Sibling Rivalry", will focus on the music of Felix Mendelssohn and his lesser-known sister Fanny.
Pianist Anna Goldsworthy, who was just 11 when she joined the Elder Conservatorium, says classical music is not only for the initiated few, but is a "human experience that can speak to us all".
So, unwind at the end of the work day with chamber music at its finest, in a casual setting, without the formalities of the concert hall. Stay and chat with the artists afterward over a complimentary drink.
The final concert in the Cocktail Concerts series will be on November 20.
