Adelaide Youth Orchestra is thrilled to announce award-winning violinist and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Natsuko Yoshimoto will join the line-up of soloists for its Maestro Series III: Power concert on Saturday, September 19.
Natsuko will step in for violinist Ji Won Kim to perform Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante, alongside AdYO alumnus and WA Symphony Orchestra violist Caleb Wright.
Natsuko last played with AdYO in September 2013, performing Bruch's Scottish Fantasy at the orchestra's sell-out Adelaide Town Hall Gala Concert where she dazzled critics and audiences alike with her refined and virtuosic performance.
She is in great demand as a soloist, and has appeared with many world renowned orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonia, Halle Orchestra, Odense Symphony (Denmark), Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic, Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Adelaide, Melbourne and Canberra Symphony Orchestras.
"Without doubt, having Natsuko perform with Adelaide Youth Orchestra will be an exciting and stimulating experience for both our audience and student musicians," said AdYO Artistic Director Keith Crellin.
"She is a hugely popular performer, and we anticipate this concert will sell-out."
The third and final of AdYO's popular Maestro series of concerts, Maestro Series 3: Power will also see the young orchestra perform the South Australian premiere of Between Two Worlds, the powerful new work by Graeme Koehne AO, and Rimsky-Korsakov's wonderfully dramatic Scheherazade, based on the tales of The Arabian Nights, in its first performance since 2008.
A reflective and emotional work, Between Two Worlds is a new adaptation of the suite from Koehne's ballet 1914, commissioned by The Australian Ballet in 1998 and inspired by David Malouf's novel "Fly Away Peter", about a young man caught up in the horror of World War I between Queensland and the western front.
After its world premiere last year in Hobart by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, this will be the first time Between Two Worlds has been performed in Koehne's home town.
The flagship of Adelaide Youth Orchestras' four orchestras, AdYO comprises 80 of South Australia's most talented young musicians, led by Artistic Director Keith Crellin. Hand-picked by annual audition, each AdYO member is tutored by professional musicians from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the SA Police Band and the Elder Conservatorium of Music at The University of Adelaide to nurture their love of orchestra music and ensure performances of the highest quality.
