Libby O'Donovan's SONGS ONLY A MOTHER COULD LOVE and More Set for 2013 Adelaide Cabaret Fringe, Now thru June 29

The 6th annual Cabaret Fringe Festival kicked off Adelaide's winter cabaret season on June 1 with an entertaining month-long/city-wide program celebrating the art form through performances ranging from musicals and variety shows to comedy and contortion.

The 2013 Cabaret Fringe Festival runs now through June 29 and this year's program, officially unveiled at a VIP Launch at La Boheme, features an entirely South Australian artist line-up - with 40 shows hosted at 14 venues across Adelaide and as far afield as McLaren Vale.

Founded in 2008, the Cabaret Fringe Festival is an open-access event which attracts a broad range of performers and aims to complement the booming cabaret landscape in Adelaide by providing a platform for established and emerging cabaret artists to present their work.

"Along with nationally successful home-grown cabaret legends like Libby O'Donovan - who celebrates the musical bonds between mother and child with her beautiful new show 'Songs Only a Mother Could Love'¹, we have some rather unconventional acts including a show by The Amazing Cristina³ - a 68 year old contortionist who quite literally bends over backwards to entertain her audience!" says 2013 Cabaret Fringe Festival Director, Annie Morris.

Other highlights of the 2013 program include 'Girl on the Drink: From Gutter to Glamour in Satire & Song'² - a thought-provoking original production from talented up and coming local Annie Siegmann, the debut solo show from 'Australian Idol' and 'The Voice' finalist Sarah Lloyde³, three modern small scale musical theatre performances ('Crazy with Sondheim'¹, 'Homemade Fusion'³ and 'Depression the Musical'³) and the rousing 'Me 'N Me Mates'¹ where Aussie Bush songs meet contemporary cabaret.

There are options especially for kids like 'The Musical Adventures of Popeye and Olive'¹, taking place on The Popeye with audiences encouraged to dress as sailors, and the interactive children's musical 'Space Encounters'¹, which will also be fully accessible for the hearing impaired community. There's even a show by kids; the inspirational 'A Vision'¹ - a musical tribute to children affected by Leukaemia, presented by 16 local performers all aged under 18.

Cabaret Fringe Festival Founder and Director, Paul Boylon, says the 2013 event remains committed to providing a program that's genuinely accessible from a financial, geographical and cultural perspective.

"Ticket prices are all $30 and under and we have a real mix of shows which cater to different ages and special interest groups and a range of musical and artistic preferences," says Boylon. "Also, with 8 new venues this year - including McLaren Vale's The Singing Gallery as well as non-traditional cabaret settings like The Popeye, The Arkaba Hotel & The Australian Centre for Social Innovation - we hope to widen the cabaret audience in Adelaide and show how this art form can be performed in any style, anywhere."
