Dr Carnesky's INCREDIBLE BLEEDING WOMAN Comes to Adelaide Fringe Image

Putting the magic back into menstruation, Dr Carnesky will take the Adelaide Fringe Festival audience on a rigorously re- searched romp through her real life PhD research into the importance of celebrating the symbolic and cultural power of the bodily cycle.

Adelaide is in for a real treat when Dr Carnesky delivers Dr Carnesky's Incredible Bleeding Woman : part serious, part tongue in cheek, part surreal TedTalk style lecture, part magic show, part witchy ritual, part activist spectacle from 14th Feb to 1st March at The Cabinet Room (upstairs of La Boheme).

The show's focus is not only menstruation and menstrual rights but also body shame, what it means to be 'female', issues around fertility and lost ancient herstories are scrutinised, politicised & reclaimed. Delivered with wry humour, revolutionary politics
and inventive reworks of traditional magic illusions, this show celebrates and subterfuges popular theatre, circus and cabaret traditions and sees the show-woman making a bloody spectacle of herself. This solo magic lecture version is specially adapted for La Boheme for the 2018 Adelaide Fringe. It sees the premiere of new spectacular films shot on the landscapes of Scotland of the shows wider cast performing versions of their specially created menstrual rituals. It also features an interactive magic illusion with a (lucky?) audience member and a call to arms inspiring the audience to take action and be part of a new feminist revolution.

Dr Carnesky plans to bring the full spectacular show with full intersectional cabaret star cast, specially designed illusions and accompanying outdoor collective menstrual actions for a 2019 Australian Tour. Written and performed by UK based show woman Marisa Carnesky and produced in Australia by Rose Ricketson, Dr Carnesky has been performing since the early 1990s. Past projects include Carnesky's Ghost Train - a critically acclaimed multimedia theatrical fairground ride, and Carnesky's Tarot Drome featuring 30 performers premiered at The Old Vic Tunnels as part of the London 2012 Festival. She was Artist in Residence at the Roundhouse, London 2008-2011, where she
developed her teaching methods with young people aged 17- 21 and established Carnesky's Finishing School which will be taking up a residency at The Spire in Brighton, UK 2018.

Awarded four out of five stars and described as "Menstrual mystery tour....delightfully po-faced and deliciously tongue-in-cheek" by The UK Guardian, Dr Carnesky's Incredible Bleeding Woman began as a PhD research project at Middlesex University and went on to run at Soho Theatre and The Edinburgh Festival.

Don't miss the opportunity to see it at Adelaide Fringe from 14th Feb to 1st March at The Cabinet Room (upstairs of La Boheme).
