Make sure your roller skates are shined and leg warmers pulled up - we're going to the 1980's! Join the Adelaide Theatre Academy as they transport you back in time with their production of Xanadu JR.
When a young Greek muse descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach only to fall in forbidden love with a mortal, comedic chaos is bound to ensue! Based on the Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical and the cult classic movie starring Olivia Newton-John, watch as these two star-crossed lovers create the first roller disco with electrifying endless fun. Xanadu JR. is bound to keep audiences in stitches with show-stopping hit after hit.
The production is directed by Mitchell Smith who has himself been nominated for Best Male Performance in this year's ATG awards for his work in the Hills Musical Theatre Company production of Spring Awakening. Choreography is by Jemma Allen and Zak Vasiliou; Muscial Direction is by Millicent Sarre.
The Adelaide Theatre Academy's 2017 Fringe production of Singin' in the Rain was nominated for the Adelaide Theatre Guide's (ATG) Best Show - Youth Drama award and has again been nominated for the same award in 2018 for their Fringe production of Little Shop of Horrors. So, on this back of this impressive track record, we're very excited to see this next musical theatre adventure Xanadu Jr.
Adelaide Theatre Academy's Managing Director, Michael Eustice says, "It is an enormous joy to be supporting some of Adelaide's best young talent as they breathe all the vibrancy and electricity of the 1980's into this fabulously colourful production. It's a tremendously enjoyable mix of hit songs, lively dance and buckets of good humour. The whole family will love this show!"
