Adelaide Festival Centre is proud to support the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize 2016, the biennial prize and exhibition is an initiative of the Adelaide Park Lands Preservation Association. The exhibition will be on display in Artspace Gallery 16 April - 28 May.
The Adelaide Park Lands enfold Adelaide City and the North Adelaide precinct, providing a sense of space and connection to the outdoors for Adelaidians who work, study, live and play in Adelaide CBD. Originally designed by Adelaide's founding surveyor Colonel William Light, the Park Lands are a unique feature of Adelaide. Adelaide Park Lands Preservation Association (APPA) are an independent, not-for-profit association whose purpose is to promote awareness and appreciation for the Park Lands and to advocate for their protection. The prize and exhibition are key elements of APPA's program to encourage the public's awareness, support and interest in the Adelaide Park Lands.
The Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize in 2014 was the first major art prize with a focus on the Adelaide Park Lands and Adelaide itself. The Art Prize highlights artworks by artists of all ages, from all countries who have captured the essence of the many facets Adelaide's Park Lands.
The exhibition, which sold over $24,000 of artwork in the inaugural 2014 exhibition in Artspace Gallery, will again feature works in a range of mediums including; painting, drawing, digital, sculpture, photography, textile and printmaking. First prize for the 2016 Art Prize is $20,000, with ten runners up receiving $1,000 for commended prizes. There will also be voting for the 'Royal Show Society People's Choice' award with a $1,000 prize. The Artspace Gallery exhibition will be made up of the winners and finalists from this year's entries.

Adelaide Festival Centre sits within the historically drawn up Park Land environment, and the Centre supports this exhibition as a way to increase accessibility to Adelaide Festival Centre and the arts for all members of the public, as well as raising awareness of the vulnerability and importance of Adelaide's unique Park Land heritage. Other supporters of the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize include Adelaide Park Lands Authority (APLA), Adelaide City Council, Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society of South Australia Incorporated, Stephan and Vicki Mavrakis, Alecia Kral Graphic Design and Burramundi.
Artspace Gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday 11am to 4pm, and nights when there are performances in Dunstan Playhouse. Artworks are available for purchase.
