For the first time this year, Adelaide Festival of Arts has introduced Pay What You Can Tickets for low income earners including pensioners and the unemployed.
Pay What You Can tickets will be available for selected Adelaide Festival shows at the box-office from one hour prior to the performance. Ticket payment is via donation of an amount chosen by the patron, based on what they can afford.
Adelaide Festival Chief Executive, Karen Bryant said, "We're committed to ensuring anyone can access the festival regardless of income which is why we program our many free events including Blinc, Bill Viola and Adelaide Writers' Week. We're thrilled to be extending this commitment by adding Pay What You Can to three of our best-selling ticketed shows."
Eligible patrons must present their current healthcare card or full time student card at the box office to access a Pay What You Can ticket (one ticket per person, tickets are subject to availability).
Pay What You Can tickets will be available for the following shows in the 2015 Adelaide Festival:
• Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Orbo Novo at 2pm on Sunday 8th March, Festival Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre
• Fela! The Concert on Thursday 12th March at 8pm, Festival Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre
• Danny's Elfman's Music from the Films of Tim Burton on Saturday 14th March at 8pm at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre
The Pay What You Can scheme adds another element to Adelaide Festival's commitment to ensuring everyone has access to world-class arts events, alongside the festival's existing discount ticket initiatives including: Under 30s pricing, concession-priced tickets, school discounts, Access tickets for people with disabilities and offers to various disadvantaged community groups.
