The 2017 Concerts at Christ Church North Adelaide season opens with the majestic sounds of the Christ Church North Adelaide organ played by Christopher Wrench, one of this country's most celebrated organists.

Christopher will perform at Christ Church North Adelaide at 2.30pm Sunday 14 May, making this an exceptionally beautiful and original gift for Mothers' Day.

Currently the Director of Music at Christ Church St Lucia in Brisbane and organist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Christopher Wrench has continually received rave reviews for his performances.

In addition to his numerous performance at Australian Festivals and as a concerto soloist, Christopher Wrench has undertaken nineteen international tours taking him around the globe, and his recording of Bach's Organ Sonatas on the Melba label received international rave reviews.

Christopher commands a solo repertoire spanning six centuries of music, including the complete organ works of J.S. Bach, Buxtehude, Duruflé, Franck, Hindemith, Mendelssohn, and Mozart.

This exclusive performance by Christopher Wrench at Christ Church is not to be missed!

Christopher also gives a Masterclass for advanced organ students - Saturday 13 May 2:00pm at Christ Church. Open to all to attend. Free entry.

The Christ Church North Adelaide Organ

The organ in Christ Church has evolved from a small but significant organ of 12 stops, installed in 1873. This instrument was built by the German-born organ builder August Gern, who worked with famous French organ builder Cavaillé-Coll before establishing his own business in England.

A series of rebuilds and expansions by several organ builders followed, culminating in a major rebuild in 2003 by Australian Pipe Organs and George Stephens. The instrument now contains 43 speaking stops distributed over three manuals and pedals and around 2,300 pipes.

Christ Church's pipe organ is in the English Romantic style, and is an outstanding instrument for both liturgical and concert use.

Set within the walls of one of Adelaide's 19th century churches, Christ Church North Adelaide proudly presents their 2017 concert series. These concerts, and the weekly choir and organ music program at Christ Church, are supported by the David Gallasch Memorial Music Trust.

The fine acoustics and splendid visual aspects of Christ Church have proven popular for performances and recordings, the church being a particularly favourable venue for choral music, chamber music, and organ recitals.
