It was announced today (Monday 5 March) that Cat Simmons will take over the role of Nancy from Samantha Barks in Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Lionel Bart's smash hit musical OLIVER! at Birmingham Hippodrome on Tuesday 3 April, the same day that Brian Conley takes over the role of Fagin from Neil Morrissey.
Cat's theatre credits include the leading role of
Mary Magdalene in the recent tour of
Jesus Christ Superstar. Her West End credits include
Whistle Down the Wind and
Fame. She also appeared in the Young Vic's sell out production of
Simply Heavenly and the Old Vic's production of
Aladdin opposite
Ian McKellen. She is probably best known for her regular role as
DC Kezia Walker in the long running ITV drama
The Bill.
The Hippodrome date marks the first time this new production of OLIVER! has been performed in the Midlands. The sensational score of OLIVER! is full of
Lionel Bart's irresistible songs including
Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, You've Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two, I'd Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah and As Long As He Needs Me.
Samantha Barks leaves OLIVER! to start filming the forthcoming
