Nominated for his first Academy Award, stage-vet Martin McDonagh won the Oscar for Best Short Film (Live Action) on Sunday, March 5, 2006. Production notes describe the story of the film "As he travels home by train after his wife's death, a grief-stricken man finds an already terrible day taking some bizarre turns for the worse."

Martin McDonagh's The Lieutenant of Inishmore, which opened on February 27th at the Atlantic Theater Company after beginning previews on February 8th, will transfer to Broadway's Lyceum Theatre, where it will begin performances on April 18th and open on May 3rd.

The production marks the American premiere of McDonagh's Olivier Award-winning play. Directed by Wilson Milam, it stars Brian d'Arcy James (Sweet Smell of Success), as well as Kerry Condon, Domhnall Gleeson, and David Wilmot; the latter three appeared in the original British production. Also included in the play's cast are Jeff Binder, Andrew Connolly, Dashiell Eaves, and Peter Gerety. The Lieutenant of Inishmore will be directed by Wilson Milam.

For The Pillowman, McDonagh received an Evening Standard Award nomination and the Olivier Award for Best Play for The National Theatre production, and a 2005 Tony Award nomination. McDonagh's first play, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, received a Best Play Tony Award nomination in 1997 and was the first in his Leenane Trilogy, which also  includes A Skull in Connemara (which played at ACT in 2000) and The Lonesome West, for which he received his second Tony Award nomination for Best Play.
