George Watsky is the recipient of the Rod Parker Playwriting Festival Award and had his original play Harold's Fall or King Will produced by Emerson Stage from April 2 through April 4, 2009 in the Semel Theater at 10 Boylston Place.

Watsky, a member of the class of 2010 as a B.A. Interdisciplinary Studies major, had his new work directed by Joe Antoun, artistic director of CentAstage in Boston, Massachusetts.

Watsky uses the game of chess as vehicle for examining status, race and mortality. Harold's Fall or King Will tells the story of William and Harold, two New York City public park chess players struggling for power in a game morphed by Will's ability to change his surroundings with his magic chalk. "This has been one of the greatest opportunities of my life. Watching the talented artists of Emerson breathe life into what were just some thoughts I scratched out in my bedroom is incredibly humbling and surreal," says Watsky of the process of bringing his words to fruition on the Semel Theater stage.

Emerson Stage's annual NewFest and Rod Parker Playwright Award are made possible by Emerson College alumnus Rod Parker ('51), a successful writer and producer for both stage and screen. In addition to the mainstage production of the Rod Parker Playwright Award winner, staged readings of other works considered for the award will take place in the Greene Theater on Thursday April 9 at 7pm.

Harold's Fall or King Will ran from Thursday, 2 April 2009 through Saturday, 4 April 2009 in the Semel Theater, at Emerson College's Tufte Performance and Production Center at 10 Boylston Place.

General Admission tickets are $14 for the public, $8 for members of the Emerson College community, and are available at the Emerson Stage box office or at Telecharge.com. Call (617) 824-8369 for more information.
