'Characterization Through Mask Work'
Gulfshore Playhouse to Offer "Characterization Through Mask Work" Workshop
In its efforts to bring Southwest Florida the most comprehensive and unique theatrical learning experiences Gulfshore Playhouse announces a new workshop for Adults. "Characterization Through Mask Work" will begin March 16th and offer a very different approach to the acting process.
The use of masks in acting and performance date back to the very origins of theatre in ancient Greece. Throughout time, mask work has been a vital teaching tool and stylistic force, such as in the Commedia dell'Arte style of theatre developed in Italy.
In this workshop, using the Meisner method of acting, participants will work with movement, voice and masks to stimulate their mind and deepen their understanding of the acting process. This method of exploring leads to more creative and less self-conscious character choices and a greater freedom of the imagination. While working through various exercises participants will deepen their understanding of the acting instrument. This class will culminate in a short presentation.
This unique experience will be lead by teaching artist Isadora O'Boto. Ms. O'Boto is a graduate of The Juilliard School of Drama and touring member of The Acting Company.
"Characterization Through Mask Work" will be held Mondays and Wednesdays on March 16, 18, 23, 25, 30, April 1 13, 15, 27 and 29 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Norris Center. The enrollment fee for this course is $200.00. Enrollment is open to all experience levels ages 18 and up.
