Triumvirate Pi Travels To New Delhi, Performs In UNIMA Event
Triumvirate Pi Theatre artistic director Leslie K. Gray and company member Camille Villanueva will travel to New Delhi to perform for a UNIMA-India event organized in conjunction with the Ishara International Puppet Festival. The Union Internationale de la Marionnette (UNIMA) is the international organization for puppetry which was founded in 1929 and is the oldest theater organization in the world.
For the occasion, Tri-Pi will perform En La Noche, an original toy theater/shadow piece based on a Uruguayan short story by Horacio Quiroga. En La Noche is the story of a woman who must battle the river waters at night to row her dying husband to safety. Original music will accompany the piece, which will be performed in English.
"Quiroga's story contains a universal message about how even a tiny woman can have the endurance to do what must be done in incredible circumstances," says Gray.
While in India, Gray will be the guest of internationally renowned puppeteer and former UNIMA-India president Anurupa Roy, whom Gray met when Roy taught a course at UCLA called "Art + Activism: Activist Puppetry."
Triumvirate Pi Theatre is dedicated to producing inventive puppet theater and live dramas that break down perceived barriers of race, gender and disability for artists and audiences.
