The Award-winning Keen Company (Carl Forsman, Artistic Director; Wayne Kelton, Producer) will open its 2008 – 2009 Season with a revival of the 1952 Tony Award-winning Best Play "The Fourposter" by Jan De Hartog. This classic piece about marriage and all of the emotions, hurdles and joys that come with it, will be directed by Blake Lawrence, and run from October 7 – November 22.
Just in time for the holidays, Keen Company Artistic Director Carl Forsman will helm the perfect family treat: "Beasley's Christmas Party" by Booth Tarkington. Written with the perfect mix of heart and humor, Beasley's Christmas Party tells the story of a curious journalist and his extremely unusual next door neighbors. This production, the company's first holiday offering, runs December 2 – January 3.
Capping off Keen Company's ninth season will be the highly anticipated New York premiere of Tom Stoppard's hilarious translation of "Heroes", by Gérald Sibleyras. Winner of the 2006 Olivier Award for London's Best Comedy, Heroes lets the audience in on the plotting of a new assault by three World War I vets living in a veterans home – a trip to a stand of trees in the distance. Directed by Carl Forsman, this production will run February 24 – April 11.
The 2008-2009 Season will also include the return of Keens Teens. An educational partnership between
Keen Company and Playscripts, Inc., Keen Teens commissions emerging playwrights to pen world premiere scripts which are then performed by high school-age actors.
All main-stage productions will be presented at
Keen Company at Theatre Row / The Clurman Theater (410 West 42nd Street). Keen Teens will take place at The Kirk Theater, also at Theatre Row.
Keen Company produces sincere plays with the belief that theater is at its most powerful when texts and productions are generous in spirit and provoke identification. Inspired by the works of early 20th Century
American Playwrights,
Keen Company demonstrates that an earnest intent can still be sophisticated and is unafraid of emotional candor, vulnerability, and optimism.
Keen Company seeks to create a culture of artists, technicians, administrators and audiences who share a desire to invigorate the theater with productions that connect audiences through humor, heart and hope.
