The Broadway production of the Harvey Fierstein/John Bucchino musical, A Catered Affair, will close following the Sunday, July 27 matinee.  The announcement was made today by producer Jordan Roth (Vice President, Jujamcyn Theaters).  A Catered Affair will have played 27 previews and 116 regular performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street).

"Our team set out to create a new form of musical storytelling," said Fierstein.  "What we achieved was raw, honest, emotionally daring theater.  I couldn't be prouder of A Catered Affair.  And, from all indications, the show will have a long and prosperous life in every sort of venue around the globe.  That ain't chopped liver!"

Producer Roth added, "A Catered Affair stands as a jewel among musicals.  Thanks to the brave work of all involved, it will live on in our audiences who are so deeply moved at every performance, in our magnificent original cast album and in future productions around the world."

Preview performances of the new musical with book by four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein and score by John Bucchino began March 25 with an April 17 opening night.  Prior to Broadway, the new musical inaugurated the 2007-8 Season at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre (where the show received 7 San Diego Critics Circle Awards, including Best Musical).  On Broadway, A Catered Affair received the Drama League's 2008 Best Musical Award and 12 Drama Desk Award nominations under the direction of Tony Award-winner John Doyle.

The production stars Tony Award-winner Faith Prince (also nominated for a 2008 Tony for Best Actress in a Musical) as 'Aggie Hurley,' the mother- of-the-bride, Tony Award-nominee Tom Wopat (2008 Best Actor in a Musical) as 'Tom Hurley,' the father-of-the-bride, Harvey Fierstein as 'Winston,' the uncle-of-the-bride, Leslie Kritzer as 'Jane Hurley,' the bride-to-be and Matt Cavenaugh as 'Ralph Halloran,' the groom-to-be.  The featured cast includes Philip Hoffman, Katie Klaus, Heather Mac Rae,Lori Wilner and Kristine ZbornikJonathan Tunick, who created the show's orchestrations, was also nominated for a 2008 Tony Award for his work.

Scenic Design is by David Gallo, Costume Design is by Ann Hould-Ward, Lighting Design is by Brian MacDevitt, Sound Design is by Dan Moses Schreier, Projection Design is by Zachary Borovay and Hair Design is by David Lawrence.

The original cast recording of A Catered Affair is now available on the PS Classics label.

A Catered Affair is produced on Broadway by Jujamcyn Theaters, Jordan Roth, Harvey Entertainment/Ron Fierstein, Richie Jackson,Daryl Roth, John O'Boyle/Ricky Stevens/Davis-Tolentino, Barbra Russell/Ron Sharpe in association with the Frankel-Baruch-Viertel-Routh Group, Broadway Across America, True Love Productions, Rick Steiner/Mayerson-Bell-Staton-Osher Group, Jan Kallish, Stacey Mindich and Rhoda Mayerson.  The musical is based on the Turner Entertainment motion picture distributed by Warner Brothers and written by Gore Vidal, and the original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky.

The performance schedule for A Catered Affair is Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday – Saturday at 8:00 p.m., with matinee performances on Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Beginning July 3, a 2:00 p.m. Thursday matinee will replace the current Wednesday 8:00 p.m. performance.  A Catered Affair will now be offering an unusual number - half - of its performances in the afternoon.  The new performance schedule for A Catered Affair will be Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m.  This schedule is effective beginning the first week in July.
