On Monday, June 2, 2008, the company of the hit Broadway musical CHICAGO is pleased to welcome back Carol Woods in the role of Matron "Mama" Morton, the reigning cell block diva of the Cook County Jail.

On the big screen, Woods recently appeared as a featured soloist in Julie Taymor's Across the Universe, performing a celebrated gospel rendition of the iconic Beatles' hit "Let It Be," which she later reprised to great acclaim on the 2008 Grammy Awards broadcast. Her other feature films include Steam, Sweet and Lowdown, Honeymooners and Stepping Out.  In addition to CHICAGO, Woods' Broadway and National Touring credits include The Full Monty, One Mo' Time, Follies, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Stepping Out, The Goodbye Girl, Grind, Big River and The Crucible. Her London stage credits include Blues in the Night (Olivier nomination) and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. On television, Woods has appeared in "The Practice," "Third Watch," "Law & Order" and as a series regular on "Parent Hood."

In the role of Matron "Mama" Morton, Woods succeeds Kecia Lewis-Evans, who plays her final performance on Sunday, June 1.

Now celebrating eleven sinfully sizzling years on the Great White Way, the record-breaking smash hit musical CHICAGO is currently the eighth longest-running production in Broadway history, as well as Broadway's longest-running musical revival...and it still shows no sign of ever slowing down!

CHICAGO currently stars Bianca Marroquin as Roxie Hart, Nancy Lemenager as Velma Kelly, Jeff McCarthy as Billy Flynn and Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart.

As previously announced, Michelle DeJean returns to the role of Roxie Hart on Monday, June 2.

Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who maliciously murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today's tabloids.

With a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, CHICAGO is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording.

Directed by Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Ann Reinking, CHICAGO features set design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Ken Billington and sound design by Scott Lehrer.

Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, CHICAGO has become a worldwide phenomenon. On December 5, 2007, the London production of CHICAGO celebrated its tenth year on the West End, where it continues to hold the record as the longest-running American musical in West End history.

Other previous international engagements include productions in Abu Dhabi, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Dubai, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan.

CHICAGO is currently playing a return engagement in Cape Town, South Africa. Other return engagements are slated for Denmark, Japan and South Africa in 2008, and Australia in 2009.
