Photo Flash: Steppenwolf's KevINda and Schadenfreude

By:

Steppenwolf Theatre Company continues its 2008 Traffic Series with A Celebration of Chicago Sketch Comedy - Monday, April 14, 2008 in the Steppenwolf Upstairs Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St.

Just in time for the 2008 Presidential race, Chicago's own kevINda and Schadenfreude team-up for a night of edgy sketch comedy exploring politics, race, sex and modern life.

Schadenfreude - derived from the German noun meaning "pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others" - has been performing sketch comedy for years.  They have headlined the Chicago Improv Festival, performed at Lollapalooza and had their own self-titled radio program on Chicago Public Radio. The troupe has also performed at L.A.'s UCB Theater, HERE Arts in NYC and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Kevin Douglas and Inda Craig-Galvan, collectively known as kevINda, have created a smart mix of racial and political satire.  Their first revue as a sketch duo, These Coloreds Don't Run, played at Donny's Skybox Theatre in 2003.  Since then, the duo has performed at C'est La Vie Drama, the Black Arts Initiative at HotHouse and the Acme Arts Building for Wordplay.

Steppenwolf is located near all forms of public transportation and is wheelchair accessible.  Street and lot parking are available.  Assistive listening devices are available for every performance.

Committed to the principle of ensemble performance through the collaboration of a company of actors, directors and playwrights, Steppenwolf Theatre Company's mission is to advance the vitality and diversity of American theater by nurturing artists, encouraging repeatable creative relationships and contributing new works to the national canon.  The company, formed in 1976 by a collective of actors, is dedicated to perpetuating an ethic of mutual respect and the development of artists through on-going group work.  Steppenwolf has grown into an internationally renowned company of forty-one artists whose talents include acting, directing, playwriting, filmmaking and textual adaptation.
