NME.com reports that "Pete Doherty and Carl Barat - formerly bandmates in The Libertines - will begin writing a musical together next week (March 10), for a new show scheduled to begin in early 2009." Doherty and Barat have been commissioned by London's Donmar Warehouse Theatre to work on the project.
"Barat explained that the duo will write around 20 new songs for the musical, which will be about the drama surrounding an up-and-coming band," states the article.
English-musicians Pete Doherty (currently a member of the
band Babyshambles) and Carl Barat (currently a member of the band Dirty Pretty
Things) formed the The Libertines in the late 1990s and reached critical
acclaim in 2002 with the release of their debut album, "Up the Bracket." Their mainstream success continued with the
release of their second self-titled album in 2004 which reached #1 in the UK charts.
