The New York Playwrights Lab - the 35 year-old organization founded keep established playwrights writing for the theatre - will offer a sample of its members' newest works in a series of free daytime readings at 2PM January 8-10 at the Cherry Lane Theatre.
As a special treat, Lab members have also written 10-minute plays on the theme "Ex Lover," creating Ten Ex-Lovers, which will be read at 4PM after each afternoon's featured play.
The Lab's featured plays range from comedy to tragedy and everything in between - offering three distinctive theatrical experiences: Richard Vetere's 3 Sisters in Queens; Neena Beber's A World Beneath; and Israel Horovitz's Sins of the Mother.
The Lab's Ten Ex-Lovers plays are saucy celebrations of whimsy. Besides Vetere, Beber and Horovitz, contributors to each Ten Ex-Lovers reading include Ellen Melaver, Daniel Reitz, Nicole Burdette, Michael Hollinger, Jonathan Marc Sherman, and James Lapine - plus a "satyr" play by Seth Zvi Rosenfeld.
The New York Playwrights Lab's readings will take place from 2-6PM. Richard Vetere's 3 Sisters in Queens will be read at 2PM on January 8, Neena Beber's A World Beneath at 2PM on January 9 and Israel Horovitz's Sins of the Mother will be the featured play at 2PM on January 10.
