Guy Davis in Kids Against Cancer Benefit Concert Nov.10

Gabriel Majors is proud to present Red House Records recording artist and NYC bluesman, Guy Davis, in a special benefit concert for Kids Against Cancer. The benefit will be held Saturday, November 10 at Icosahedron Gallerie in Tribeca (27 North Moore Street, between Hudson and Varick Streets).

The artists reception begins at 6:30 PM; concert begins 7:30 PM. Suggested Donation: $20.  The concert will feature special guest hosts and performers Michael Butler and Jeff Samet of The Brooklyn Guitars.  

Guy Davis is a New York City-based bluesman, storyteller, songwriter and actor.  His latest Red House Records release "Skunkmello" was hailed as his most compelling record to date by Billboard and was nominated for 3 Blues Music Awards.  Mixing early country blues with more modern urban sounds, the album features an all-star cast of players that includes Mark Naftalin (Paul Butterfield Blues Band), T-Bone Wolk (Saturday Night Live Band) and John Platania (Van Morrison Band).  His 8th album on the Red House label, Skunkmello is a rare mix of new and old, traditional and original that has caused critics and blues fans to call it a modern blues masterpiece.

The son of famous writers/actors, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, Guy got his start in the theater, making his Broadway debut in 1991 in the Zora Neale Hurston/Langston Hughes collaboration Mulebone which featured the music of Taj Mahal.  Guy continued to combine his love for acting and blues music, and in 1993 he performed Off-Broadway as legendary blues player Robert Johnson in Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil, which garnered rave reviews and led him to win his first W.C. Handy Award from the Blues Foundation.  A veteran of theater and television (some might remember him from his early role on One Life to Live), Guy began pursuing his music more seriously in 1995, when he signed with Red House Records and released Stomp Down Rider, the first in a string of highly acclaimed acoustic blues releases.  Featured on PBS-Television, National Public Radio and Dan Akroyd's syndicated show House of Blues Radio Hour, Guy Davis is one of the rare blues musicians that is bringing old-school country blues into the 21st century incorporating more electric and modern hip-hop influences.
