Journey to Dollywood extends its run for an extra week at the Matrix Theatre, where the off-beat and imaginative new "dramedy" is playing to packed houses.  Performances will now continue through November 3.

"In Journey to Dollywood, a waitress who idolizes Dolly Parton, her rival co-worker, and their eccentric boss are all changed forever when a stranger's car breaks down in their sleepy Southern town.  Playwright Jessie McCormack, who also plays the role of Parton acolyte Jolene, sent the script with an impassioned letter to the country star.  Parton not only gave the production her blessing, she also recorded a voice-over for it and posed with McCormack for some photos that are part of a slide show in the play," explain press notes.  The rest of the cast includes Melissa Greenspan, Henry Gummer and Erik Van Wyck.

Performances of Journey to Dollywood continue every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8PM through November 3. Tickets are $20.

The Matrix Theatre is located at 7657 Melrose Ave, between Fairfax and La Brea.  For reservations and information, call (323) 960-4418 or go to www.plays411.com/dollywood.
