Satire 'Political Idol' in Off-Bway Engagement at Triad
After sold-out runs in Washington DC and Chicago, Political Idol, a hilarious spoof of the upcoming Primary Elections lambastes its way to Off-Broadway's Triad Theatre opening Tuesday, November 6 at 9PM for an eight week run. Produced by the Freedom Toast Company, preview performances begin Tuesday, October 30 at 9PM.
Political Idol is based on the parodies of Marc Emory, muse and founder of The Freedom Toast, who originated the idea at a Renaissance Weekend gathering (the annual retreat for innovative leaders from diverse fields) where he was encouraged to record some of his twisted takes on popular songs.
"Armed with irreverence, wit, and spot-on impressions of Hillary, Obama, Giuliani, and George W., a quartet of seasoned entertainers turn familiar songs into show-stopping political parodies. Directed by Julie Blanciak the company features: Lara Buck, Enga Davis, Joseph DiSalle and Robert Yarnall," explain press notes.
At every performance, audience members will cast their vote for their favorite candidate candidates audition for the role of president and sing for the audience votes!
The show features more than a dozen lyrically-altered songs, from "Who'll Stop McCain" to "Giuliani," the former mayor's salute to both himself and the Dean Martin standard, "That's Amore." Other stand-outs include "We're Bringin' Ronnie Back" (Sexy Back) and "What's Bill Got to Do With It," Hillary's version of the Tina Turner classic.
Chris Haberl will serve as musical director and Kat Martin will design the costumes.
Two CDs of The Freedom Toast songs are available on iTunes, including "Sing Along with the Democrats" and "Sing Along with the Republicans."
Political Idol will play Tuesdays at 9 PM through December 18 at The Triad Theatre (158 West 72nd Street, between Broadway & Columbus Avenue). There is a 2 drink minimum and a $25 music charge. For tickets and reservations call TheaterMania at 212-352-3101 or online www.theatermania.com
