Photo Coverage: Hairspray Dolls at Toys 'R' Us

On July 17th, Amanda Bynes, Nikki Blonsky, Elijah Kelley, Brittany Snow and Zac Efron of the Hairspray movie helped the raise the curtain on the film's new doll line at Toys "R" Us in Times Square!
Hitting retails shelves in July 2007 to coincide with the theatrical release, the Hairspray dolls offer authentic replicas of the central characters in the movie, including Edna Turnblad (played by John Travolta), Tracy Turnblad (played by newcomer Nikki Blonsky), Penny Pingleton (played by Amanda Bynes), Link Larkin (played by Zac Efron from Disney's "High School Musical"), Seaweed (played by Elijah Kelley) and Amber Von Tussle (played by Brittany Snow). "Wearing their signature fashions from key scenes in the film, the detailed dolls stand between 10 1/2 and 12 inches tall. Bringing extra excitement to the line are the singing dolls, which will play signature songs from the movie's soundtrack. The retail prices are $14.99 - $24.99," state press notes.
Featuring new and original material based on John Waters' 1988 cult classic about star-struck teenagers on a local Baltimore dance show, the comedy features a remarkable collection of talent including Travolta, Bynes, Blonsky, Efron, Snow, Kelley, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Allison Janney, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Chicago), and director Adam Shankman (Bringing Down The House). The new screenplay forHairspray was written by Leslie Dixon, based on the show's book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, with a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Hairspray is scheduled for a July 20, 2007 release.
