Exit Theatre, San Francisco's downtown indie home for new and alternative performance, is partnering with New York's Horse Trade Theater to produce a 12-day indie theatre festival in three venues in downtown Manhattan.  The new festival, called FRIGID Fest, is scheduled for March 7-18, 2007.

FRIGID (Fun Risky Intimate Gritty Indie Downtown) Fest will be the first stop on the 2007 North American Fringe Circuit. The festival is a celebration of independent theater tailored to support the artist. FRIGID is the newest member of CAFF - the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals.

Exit Theatre also produces the annual San Francisco Fringe Festival, the second oldest Fringe Festival in the U.S., and this year marks  Exit's 16th annual Fringe Festival, scheduled for September 5-16, 2007.

As with all CAFF-sanctioned festivals, the artists involved in the FRIGID Festival will keep 100% of their own box office.  "The artistic freedom of the participants is unrestrained in this uncensored, non-juried, non-curated festival," says Erez Ziv, Managing Director of the Horse Trade Theater Group.

According to the producers, the first 75% of applications received are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with the last 25% being determined by lottery. The participant is guaranteed a minimum of five performances. The only requirement is a running time of sixty minutes or less, and an allowance for ten minutes to set up and take down their sets.

San Francisco's Sean Owens has successfully secured a slot at the festival.  He will take his one-person show, Naught But Pirates, "an outrageous swish-and-swashbuckling adventure," to FRIGID Fest.  Naught But Pirates, with an original score by Don Seaver, previews March 2 and 3 at Exit Theatre in San Francisco, in preparation for its New York debut.

The 12-day FRIGID Fest plans on hosting over 150 performances in three venues by 30 theatre companies from all over North America.

Applications are still being accepted, and applicants are asked to visit www.horseTRADE.info, and follow the FRIGID Fest link.
